After a thorough and careful analysis of the situation in Imo State, especially the recent plot by the Imo State government and the Imo State Police Command to use brutal force to suppress freedom of expression and free speech in Imo State as showcased in the attack on the epoch Occupy Imo peaceful rally organized by IPAD protesters on 18th December, 2017, by the police, the Imo Peoples Action for Democracy (IPAD) has therefore resolved to continue their peaceful protest ad infinitum and in all parts of the State until Governor Rochas Okorocha refrains from his bad governance and undemocratic demolition of public and private structures without due regards to the economic realities in the country.
By this resolution, we are calling on the good people of Imo all over the state to come out en-masse where ever they are and use the only democratic and lawful tool in our hands (peaceful protest) to resist Emperor Rochas Okorocha. The uncountable actions of the government which has inflicted untold hardship on the citizens show that Imo people would be in for the worst in the next few months to 2019 general elections if the impunity of the Rochas Okorocha led government of Imo State is not resisted.
We are also watching and observing many purported Imo political elites who have sold away their conscience to become praise singing sycophants in the face of grand injustice to turn up and join the historic struggles to liberate Imo State from the hands tyrants.
More to our worry are those who are warming up to occupy elective positions, especially the governorship aspirants who are either scared of speaking out against the bad and dangerous policies of this government on the citizens or are deliberately indifferent to the situation.
Let it be known to them that we see them as not different from Rochas Okorocha and will equally resist them at the right time using our democratic votes.
As we continue our peaceful protest, we therefore call on youth and student groups, political parties, religious organizations, students, artisans, the physically challenged, traders, Keke riders, and all the aggrieved people of Imo State to join our train to salvage Imo today.
Signed
Aku Obidinma (Coordinator)
Marjorie Ezihe (Secretary Org. Committee)
