The 2015 elections have come and gone; Nigerians made history by voting out an incompetent government and since then, as a people, we have not rested on our oars with respect to demanding good governance from the current administration. One of the major indicators of the seriousness – or otherwise – of a government is its budget, and thus, when the President presented the Appropriation Bill before the National Assembly, Nigerians took their time to scrutinize the document and draw attention to areas they had reservations about.
The process of passing the budget was more tedious than had been envisaged, but the President’s assent has finally been given and now, all hands must be on deck to ensure its full implementation. This is the Budget of Change that Nigerians have awaited with bated breath since a new era was ushered in, and we have faith in the ability of our leaders in the Executive and Legislative arms of government to deliver on their promises to the Nigerian people.
We must also commend the Federal Government on the many gains being recorded against the deadly Boko Haram sect in the North-East. Not only has the spate of attacks reduced, but some hitherto Internally Displaced Persons have returned to their communities.
We hope that those bent on wreaking havoc in the North-Central are also decisively dealt with, and that those responsible for the recent acts of terrorism in the Niger-Delta region are brought to justice. With the clean-up of Ogoni land scheduled to begin soon, it is indeed apparent to every objective citizen that this administration has done no wrong which needs to be avenged.
We must all remember that Nigeria is our home, and the onus lies on each and every one of us to not shield criminal elements whose actions negatively affect us all. Now is the time to play our role as active citizens and support this government in its quest to effectively solve our myriad of challenges.
God bless the All Progressives Congress, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
