It amazes me each time our government says “we can’t go back on this decision” even if it’s obvious that they committed a blunder in taking their decision. The same government that claims to have a listening ear, what an irony! Listening in the true sense is the hallmark of a responsible government.
Chief Moshood Abiola deserves to be made a national hero not a local one! What is the correlation between him and University of Lagos, which is regionally based and does not symbolize what he stood for?
What would have been more appropriate than national monuments that would project what Abiola lived and died for? National Stadium Abuja, for his contributions in sports development that earned him ‘Pillar of Sports in Africa’ should have been considered. Football is a factor in Nigeria. Naming the National Stadium after Abiola would have had more far reaching effect.
National Assembly Complex is an alternative since Abiola laid down his life for democracy. I believe a responsible government will take responsible action including reversing its unpopular decision.
