By Okinba Launko (after Bertolt Brecht)
I am told that our best experts have been saying
How, from a moral point of view, the last government’s Corruption
Fell below the standards of the previous heists. The politicians
All harshly deplore the methods by which the Jonathanians effected
The mobilization of certain peoples. Media executhieves
Are said to regret now the furtive payments
Which filled their banks and mouths with blood money
And the war fronts with corpses. The party chieftains,
So we hear, condemn the workers’ unpaid salaries and the jets in
The Presidential fleet that are still unavailable to their wives.
Even the bishops and imams who ‘obtained’ rub their stomachs and
Dissociate themselves from this way of waging peace; in short
The feeling prevails in every quarter that the PDP did the Fatherland
A lamentably bad turn, because Corruption
(Which is different from Stealing, as it is natural and inevitable),
Has now, thanks to the hilariously uninhibited and patently
Inhuman way in which it was conducted on this occasion, been
Badly discredited for some time to come.
