Dear Sir/Ma’am,
It is my pleasure to invite you to a one-day media sensitization on hate and dangerous speech in Nigeria by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD).
Hate and dangerous speech is doubtlessly one of the key drivers of conflicts all over the world, therefore, as part of its efforts of strengthening peace and peaceful coexistence in the Nigerian society, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) initiated the Monitoring and Countering of Hate and Dangerous Speech project.
The objective of the project is to contain the spread of hate and dangerous speech in the Nigerian society and as media practitioners; you know of course that the major channel for the propagation of hate and dangerous speech are various media platforms – traditional, new and social media.
Therefore, we thought it useful to organize a one-day media sensitization/interactive forum with media institutions to draw your attention to the different shades of hate speech, how it can be identified as well the various techniques for countering it.
This forum also provides an opportunity to strategize on the way forward in our quest to curb hate speech at the levels of reporting and advertorials in the Nigerian press.
The forum will take place as follows:
Date: 20th October, 2015
Time: 9 am
Venue: The International Press Centre (IPC), House 11, Dideolu Court, Dideolu Estate, by First Bank, off Ijaiye Road, Ogba-Lagos
