Nigerians! Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is our newly-adopted hero and ‘martyr’, a ‘victim’ of Nigerian leaders’ corruption. You see, ours is a nation of sentimental people and this has again come to the fore.
Sanusi may have uncovered scam involving NNPC, but the fact of the matter is that not having his facts right as a CBN Governor before making those claims reek of incompetence; it is an embarrassment of international dimension.
No one says you can’t be a whistleblower, but be a whistleblower with facts and be ready to pay the price for blowing the whistle. You can’t blow the whistle and expect them to sit still without fighting back, digging frantically at the dirty secrets you think you have successfully buried.
Edward Snowden was a whistleblower, but he had his facts, he didn’t just make wild claims; he backed up those claims with correct evidence and he knew the price he would have to pay for being a whistleblower; he would always be a man on the run.
In other climes, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi should have shamefully and remorsefully resigned and retired to his hometown to await his chance to become the Emir, but No, ours is a nation of shameless people, he had to wait to be removed.
Truth is Sanusi should have been thrown out a long long time ago. Where in the world does an appointee talk back at the man who appointed him and it is alright? That Sanusi even lasted that day as CBN Governor is due to the fact that the President knows gullible Nigerians will start screaming blue murder if he was flung out immediately.
There’s a difference between activism and professionalism. If Sanusi wants to be an activist, let him resign his appointment and join us ordinary Nigerians, not sit in government house, earn government’s huge salaries and allowances and still kick at the same government and expect the same government to continue romancing him. Let him as an ordinary Nigerian make those unfounded claims and stand by his error and then let government and NNPC give him the true definition of libel.
Now, Mallam Sanusi will act like the government was wrong to have suspended him, but I’m sure anyone who can sit and think clearly will realise that he should have gone a long time ago. Sanusi is not a victim of government’s highhandedness here, he is a victim of his own scheming and incorrect details.
Mr. President may have taken so many wrong steps in the past, and yes we know he is both corrupt and a fierce supporter of corruption, but this step is not one of those steps; he must be commended for this.
