Some three months after the passing of the great African and world revolutionary leader, Nelson Mandela, Nigerian activists, under the aegis of ABUJA COLLECTIVE, will specially celebrate their icon, this Thursday.
Slated to hold at the Yar’Adua Centre on Thursday, February 13, 2014, by 10.00am, the mixed grill event will be addressed by veteran African National Congress (ANC) leader and Member of South African Parliament, Prof Ben Turok; former South African Minister of Reconstruction and later Telecommunication, Comrade Jay Naidoo.
Other speakers expected at the event are Dr. Patrick Wilmot, the renowned pan Africanist scholar, former of Ahmadu Bello University, as well as well known Nigerian anti-apartheid crusaders. The South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency, Lulu Louis Mnguni, is expected to deliver an address at the occasion.
The cultural aspect of the celebration will feature Tar Uko of the Mambissa and the Amistados, and the Lizon International Band. There will also be a play on the life of Nelson Mandela by secondary school students.
The organisers of the event, The Abuja Collective, are veteran Nigerian anti-apartheid, human rights, pro-democracy and progressive activists operating from Abuja.
The press and general public are cordially invited to the event.
