PLURAL+ 2013
PLURAL+ is a Youth Video Festival on migration, diversity and social inclusion; emphasizing intercultural dialogue, youth expression and the desire for peace and better understanding world-wide. It is a joint initiative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the support of many partner organizations from around the world.
Each year young people (up to 25 years of age) are invited to send short videos (up to 5 minutes in length) to PLURAL+, addressing issues of migration and/or intercultural dialogue.
The videos were screened by an international jury. Nico Daswani, a member of the International Jury of PLURAL+ 2013, said: “The imagination, craftsmanship and care reflected in such a diversity of videos is an indication that there is an entire generation determined to create and shape the world they live in. We should all be working towards helping unleash that creativity.”
A spokesperson for CHINH India, an organization partnering with PLURAL+, added: “In crucial present times, when adult diplomacy is struggling to find ways to achieve peace and harmony across the globe, it is extremely satisfying to discover that the youth media literacy movement initiated by PLURAL+ is on its way to reinvent new diplomatic languages, ways and voices to create wider understanding among cultures through issues that are relevant to youth.”
Kudzai Chimbaira, another International Jury member of PLURAL+ 2013, comments: “PLURAL+ gave me a deeper understanding of how young people are affected by conflict in one way or another and at the same time it induced me to better appreciate the humanitarian organizations’ contributions which give migration and diversity a humane face.”
