As it stands today, the only realistic step towards curbing the present insurgence is to identify, ascertain and expose those behind the Boko Haram sect. We cannot continue to cut the branches and leafs of a tree without uprooting it. The root of Boko Haram is their sponsors and the activities of the sect will not stop if we continue to arrest and kill the members without getting rid of those behind them.
If the security agents and President Jonathan are not ready to ascertain and expose those behind Boko Harram, let them stop this charade of parading Boko Haram suspects and telling us they have arrested Boko Haram suspects.
This blame game and indirect accusation of individuals and organization by President Jonathan and his government have not brought any positive result and will never do. President Jonathan and his government should gather verifiable evidences, arrest and prosecute those it believes are behind the insurgence, than make public and frivolous allegations that lack evidences.
Recently, security operatives led by the director of SSS and Director of Military Information told us they have captured those behind the Nyanya bomb blast in Abuja. Of course Boko Haram claimed responsibility. That means they did the job for Boko Harram. Who did they tell the SSS and co that he/she sent them?
How were they contacted? Is it possible for one to bomb for Boko Harram without having a contact with the sect? How were they paid and who paid them? Until the security agents and Jonathan provide this information, everything they are doing will remain an orchestrated attempt to deceive Nigerians and play to the gallery.
After the UN bomb blast and other several attacks by Boko Haram, the security agents and government have claimed they arrested many of those responsible for the bombing. I believe that thorough investigations and drilling of the suspects have taken place over this period. The result should be the revelation and identification of those who contacted these suspects to perpetrate the mayhem.
There must be a link between those that carry out the attacks and those that claim responsibility for the attacks. Even, when the link is long, it must be traceable when suspects are apprehended.
I do not believe that Kabiru Sokoto, one of those that the security agents and government have apprehended as one of the kingpins of Boko Haram and sentenced to prison will not make some revelations regarding other leaders of the sects who are still at large.
One of these three scenarios must be correct. It is either the security agents and government are just parading innocent people and forcing them to make confessions to play to the gallery or they arrange said suspects to be paraded so that they can justify their positions and the money they are voting for security. The third scenario is that they are not capable and competent of doing the job they have been employed or voted to do.
President Jonathan’s continuous show of sympathy, condolence and the latest sober has long served its purpose and has become laughable and disgusting. Mr President cannot continue to sympathize, condole and sober without showing practical commitments to ending the insurgence.
If the president and his government do not produce and positive result in the fight against insurgence and put an end to these killings, Nigerians will begin to see his sympathy, condolence and sober as fake and a caricature of the casualties.
