Many Nigerians believe that Gov Adams Oshiomole didn’t need the entire fancy pick up lines to woe his young pretty wife. They assumed his earthly possessions and the power as the executive governor did all the talking.
In all the piffle and confusion that beclouded this consecrated union, what stirs my interest is the palpable strength of hypocrisy that has played out so far from this particular event. First are those who thought Adams shouldn’t have found love in the first place with someone far younger than his age after five years of losing his wife, Clara to cancer.
Why pick a girl young enough to be his daughter as wife, they queried? Second are those who said it were an ‘anathema’ for President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), to have a public handshake with a woman.
The schism among some faithful is that, this is inappropriate for a Muslim and in a way, it seems to taint Buhari’s much acclaimed piety. One is tempted to ask: Was Buhari voted in as a Muslim president? Methinks Nigeria is a secular state and Buhari himself contested under a secular party.
If some religious zealots insist he should not be seen to shake hands with women, how would he carry out his presidential duties? Would it be okay if he shook hands with females in secret? Since we’re playing religious cards, why not remove the logs from our eyes before searching for the speck in his?
Most men who beef Oshiomole do not have the moral rectitude to do so either. This is because it is the same married men that take young college girls as girl friends. In fact, today, there are many married men in Nigeria who are into the licentious practice of harboring concubines; just another factoid that everybody knows, but ignore or justify under “all men are promiscuous”.
And for those whining ladies who accuse the young bride of being a gold digger, take a detached assessment of yourself and see if you’re not currently, or have been in a cash-driven love relationship before.
Nobody harangued you for sure, except probably your conscience. Besides, how do you from your little cubicle know the intentions of another? And trust Nigerians in their obsessive penchant for trivialities, social media has been awash with flak against what they consider as questionable by both men. Suddenly, we have forgotten the endless biting fuel scarcity, the epileptic power supply and many other socio-economic malaise bedeviling us.
Gov Adams’ private life and Buhari’s ‘haram’ public hand shake to a woman have suddenly become a national hot-button issue. If only we would put our time and thoughts to better use.

It is taboo for presidents and governors to marry foreigners. It is not done in real democracies. Show me just one american governor who married a russian national, or a north korean national or a vietnamese, or even an arab. It is even a security risk becuase the foreign wife could be recruited by the spy agency of her country and then be used to spy on te country of her husband. A part from that a governor marrying a top model is disgusting especially when he seniors that topmodel with 40 years. Berlusconi will tell you that he should have put his sexual apetite aside while he was in power in italy. So the acts of oshiomole are disgraceful and should certainly not be congratulated.
