Bamidele Francis Aturu (Comrade BF) as we knew him is no longer with us, but his deeds continue to live on and inspire those of us that he has left behind.
He was a Consummate Activist, a Complete Revolutionary, and a Total Human being.
Like Chima Ubani, our late compatriot and comrade who departed before him, he was wholesomely dedicated to the cause of the popular masses, to the search for justice, to the struggle to revolutionarily remake our country and humanize our society.
He like most from my generation went through the baptism of the revolutionary student movement. As a youth corper he excelled and so distinguished himself that he was nominated for an award, which he promptly rejected, because it was coming from a Military Dictatorship that we were locked in mortal conflict with.
He was a leader of all our movements; from the Patriotic Youth Movement Of Nigeria [PYMN] – one of the revolutionary students and youth platforms of those days; through Socialist Congress Of Nigeria [SCON]; to The Campaign For Democracy [CD]; and after the split of the CD in 1994; to The Democratic Alternative [DA] – the mass democratic popular party that we established in 1995; and the United Action For Democracy [UAD] which we founded in 1997 to enhance the Anti-Military and Pro-Democracy struggles of our peoples.
He was National Convener of the UAD in 2003 to 2005; a regime that I also served as Deputy National Convener. He was thus one of my predecessors as National Convener of the UAD.
We were political collaborators and friends; and like true friends and revolutionaries, we sometimes disagreed vehemently.
Adieu Brother, Friend, Compatriot, Comrade and Co-Conspirator!
