Prof. Kwame Karikari, former Chairman, Board of Directors, Graphic Communications Group Limited, former Director-General, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, and ex-Dean, School of Communication Studies, Wisconsin International University College, Accra, as Keynote Speaker, is headlining the 9th Annual Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) on “Communication, Media and Power Relations in a Multicultural Society,” and Annual General Meeting (AGM), holding from August 31 – September 1, 2022, at Rockview (Royale) Hotel, Wuse, Abuja. The Special Panel with the theme: “One Country, Many Voices: Dilemmas of free expression,” is also featuring a team of specialists set to energise the conference with perspectives which validate ACSPN as an Association with a commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
The Lead Presenter at the Panel is the Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Malam Balarabe Ilelah. Panellists include:
- Sherri Hope Culveris Director, Center for Media and Information Literacy, Temple University, USA, where she is Associate Professor, Klein College of Media and Communication. Sherri’s teaching focuses on the business of media, media literacy, and media for children. Recent consulting clients include Google, Facebook, Public Journalism Club of Armenia, Maryland Public Television, Digital Communications Network, and the National Association for Media Literacy Education.
- Dr. Chido Onumahhas worked for more than three decades as a journalist and media trainer in Nigeria, Ghana, Canada, the US, India, the Caribbean, and Spain. He is a human rights and anti-corruption activist, who is coordinator of the African Centre for Media & Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), Abuja, and was Director of Africa programmes, Panos Institute, Washington, DC, U.S.A.
- Busola Ajibolais Deputy Director, Journalism Program, Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID). She coordinates the largest network of young journalists in West Africa through the Next Gen Campus Reporter Program at the CJID.
- Alexandre Le Voci Sayadis currently Director of Organization in Brazil and International co-Chairman of UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Alliance. He is a columnist for Revista Educação, Canal Futura website, and has authored several books on MIL issues. He is also the host of the TV show “Idade Mídia”, on Canal Futura, and of the Radio show ABC da Notícia, on BandNews FM.

The fee applies to all participants – physical and virtual, and conference fee payment and participation in the sessions, either physically or virtually, qualifies participants for Certificate of Participation. It is advisable to pay before the programme and present the evidence at the venue or to the ACSPN mailbox. Virtual participants who have paid their conference fee, are also eligible to collect ACSPN Book Series 6: “Communicating Identities: Media and Inclusive Democracies” once they arrange to collect their copies from the Secretariat.
