Young journalists, journalism students and young people interested in understanding how the media functions in the age of new media technologies, are welcome to join this year’s Journalism Summer School at the serene campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the picturesque city of Barcelona, Spain.
This two-week course which attracts students and youth from around the world every year is a collaboration between the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, and Cairo University, Egypt.
This year’s training, open to young people from around the world runs from June 1-16.
While there is no course fee, students are expected to cover the cost of their flight and accommodation on campus. The accommodation will be arranged in consultation with course organisers.
The intensive course which will be offered in English and in a multicultural environment is divided into four parts:
- Introduction to Radio and TV
- New Media
- Writing for media
- Introduction to Spanish
Course participants will have opportunity to go through the following with the help of seasoned international journalists, researchers and professors:
Radio & TV
- Rise of radio and television
- Different types of radio and TV
- Ownership of radio and TV
- Different radio and television programmes
- Producing for radio and TV
- Practical cases and assignments
New Media
- Rise of new media
- What is new Media?
- Web 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3
- Young people and new media
- Impact of new media on traditional media
- Practical cases and assignments
Writing for Media:
- How to write for newspapers
- How to write for radio
- How to write for TV
- How to write scripts for radio and TV
- Practical cases and assignments
Spanish Language:
- Introduction to Spanish
- Basic course on Spanish language, including reading and conversation.
